New exploitation partner

We regret to share that iThera Medical has discontinued its operations due to financial challenges.

This is a deeply unfortunate development for the entire iThera team and a significant loss for the field of optoacoustic imaging. As a pioneer and leader in the development of optoacoustic devices for both pre-clinical and clinical research, iThera’s closure marks the end of an important chapter in the industry. The impact of this situation has also extended to the SWOPT consortium, where iThera has served as our exploitation partner since the project’s inception.

In response, the project management and steering committee acted swiftly to ensure continuity. We are pleased to announce that Spear UG, a Munich-based SME specialising in translating research innovations into market-ready solutions, has joined the SWOPT consortium as the new exploitation partner.

Together with Spear UG, we remain committed to advancing the project’s technological developments towards future commercialisation. As we enter the second half of the project’s timeline, our focus is shifting towards unlocking the intellectual property potential and ensuring the transferability of our research outcomes.

We thank iThera Medical for their valuable contributions and look forward to this new phase with renewed determination.
