Officialy founded in 1969, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the youngest technology institutes in the world. With more than 17,000 students, from over 120 different countries, EPFL is one of Europe’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan science and technology institutions. EPFL researchers are distributed between approximately 500 laboratories, and their research is among the 1% most cited in their fields.

The annual budget of EPFL is over 1 billion CHF – a significant part coming from third parties. In fact, EPFL has already been awarded with almost 200 grants from the European Research Council (ERC).

EPFL is also recognized for its innovation and technology exploitation. Only in 2021, 32 startups were founded, resulting in more than 350 startups since 2000.
