Our communication team has created the project logo. The concept of photoswitching is visualized by a human individual flipping this simplified molecular switch. First, the molecule is shown in its state of an inconspicuous appearance (grey), that after receiving light pulses becomes activated and more and more apparent in the images. The final state (red) visualizes the distinct appearance of the molecule against the eliminated noise or background of an image, which should allow for single cell imaging in SWOPT. The formation of sound waves is further illustrated to point to the principles of the optoacoustic effect and optoacoustic imaging. The acronym of the project is shown by highlighting the first letters of the words in red from which the acronym is derived, namely “Switching Optoacoustic Tomography”.
